Quality not quantity
When you do step out and make a bet, never wager more than five percent of your bankroll on any selection. As stated, college basketball is a long season and it keeps you busy Monday through Sunday. If you use a different approach and start wagering many amount of games to early, there is a chance you might not survive, especially if the ball doesn’t bounce your way.
Survey the schedule
Early in the season, college teams like to pad their schedule with what I like to call “cupcake row”. You’ll see some top-notch programs start off with a bunch of no-name opponents in order to rack up impressive blowout wins. All that does is give those teams a false sense of reality. After beating up on a number of weaklings, these phony juggernauts struggle something fierce when asked to step up in class.
Respect home courts
There are close to 345 college basketball teams that compete on an annual basis. Some of these clubs are mid-majors while others belong to the core conferences you’re familiar with thanks to the BCS. Regardless of whether you’re playing basketball in the ACC or the America East, there are certain home courts in college basketball that demand your respect.
To name a few there’s Duke, BYU, Utah State, Missouri State, Creighton, Kansas, Kentucky and Michigan State. If you plan on fading any one of those schools in their own backyard, you better have a darn good reason.
Keep in mind, home courts in college basketball can be troublesome to visiting opponents for a number of reasons. The student section is right on top of the court in some situations. The actual lighting of the stadium could play a part. How difficult it is to get to some destinations also might play a factor.
Momentum
Here is a technical situation for you to consider that is based on momentum:
Since 1990, college basketball home teams are a tremendous 168-137 ATS for 55 percent provided they enter off back-to-back SU and ATS wins and a pair of victories by 20 points or more in each of those games. If our host is favored by 10 points or more, this situation tightens up to a rewarding 113-78 ATS for 59.1 percent.
Surprisingly, this system gets really good if our host runs into a team playing with momentum too. With our 113-78 ATS in hand, this system tightens up to a stunning 33-11 ATS for 75 percent if our host runs against a team that checks in off two or more straight up wins.
There are additional techniques that you can use depending on the time of season. Non-conference games, conference games and March Madness can all be handicapped in different ways. However, if you stick to the basic four – quality not quantity, survey the schedule, respect home courts and momentum – you should enjoy some hardwood success.
